Sunflower news Autumn term 1, 2008

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the new term and a new school year! All our new children have settled in really well and we will shortly be writing to our new families, inviting them to come to a new parents’ evening. All your questions and any problems will hopefully be answered and sorted there – in the meantime just ask nursery staff!

We are pleased to welcome Joanna Cave as our second nursery teacher. I will usually be working Mon, Tues, Wed, and Joanna will work Thurs, Fri. Gill Jones, our excellent nursery nurse, is in nursery every day. As our numbers are high at the moment we have a third member of staff at all times. This role is shared between Barbara Leo, Emma Habgood, and Jane Hodgman.

Our topic for this term is ‘Ourselves’. We would like the children to bring in a few significant photos that they can share with the group. These could be in the form of a little book, or just a few photos (with dates and any relevant info) in an envelope. We will take care of them and will return them at the end of the topic. The children really enjoy sharing their experiences with each other, and we all learn a lot about our families.

We are still cooking with the children (usually on a Monday), and are still trying to provide healthy snacks as well as the free fruit every day. The cost of snacks and cooking ingredients has really gone up and unless we have help from everyone we shall not be able to continue with this. I have tried to budget for this, and think that if all families contributed £1 each term we could manage. Some of you have already given us some money – thank you for that. Please sign the slip below, and do add comments if you wish to.

As we have so many children, and want to spend quality time helping them to choose books to take home, bookbags will now be changed on alternate days – blue group one day, red group the next. If you are not sure which group your child is in, the names are on the bookbag boxes.

Friday is our day for going down to the woods. Please make sure that your child has a pair of (named) wellies every Friday – if you have a spare pair that could stay at school that would be even better.

We would welcome your help in nursery at anytime, whether it is for half an hour now and again, or on a regular basis. If you have particular skills or talents please share them with us! Our curriculum plans our always on the office door, and a shorter version is on the school’s website.

We look forward to a busy and happy term!
With best wishes,
Sue Smythe
